Young Professionals Internship Expo Launches a New Era of Talent Connection in Montgomery

On Thursday, April 17, the Montgomery Chamber’s Talent Division, Montgomery. And You., hosted its first-ever Young Professionals Internship Expo — and the turnout far exceeded expectations.
Held at Montgomery Chamber, the Expo brought together a diverse group of students and young professionals from across the Capital River Region with local employers offering a variety of internship opportunities. But this wasn’t just another career fair. It was an energized, forward-thinking event designed to connect the dots between local talent and regional employers, building a stronger pipeline for Montgomery’s future workforce.
Importantly, this initiative aimed to ensure students returning home for the summer were exposed to local internship opportunities. It also served as a connection point to our 2025 FuelAL River Region Program — an initiative of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama and Innovate Alabama — designed to showcase the numerous opportunities for young professionals to grow and launch their careers in the River Region, with a focus on quality of life and place.

Students from colleges and universities attended the Expo with resumes in hand and enthusiasm on full display. They had the chance to speak one-on-one with recruiters and hiring managers, explore internship paths in different industries, and ask thoughtful questions about career development — all while learning more about what it means to build a future right here in Montgomery.
Employers were equally energized. They came prepared to engage with students, showcase the unique aspects of their businesses, and discuss how interns could make an immediate impact. For many, it was an opportunity to connect with a new generation of thinkers, creators, and doers — and to invest in the local talent pool that will help drive their future success.
A huge thank you to the employers who participated and shared their time and opportunities with Montgomery’s next generation of leaders:

The event also served as a living example of what the Chamber’s Montgomery. And You. initiative is all about — keeping talent local by building strong, meaningful connections between students and employers. Whether through internships, mentorships, or full-time career paths, Montgomery is a place where young professionals can plant roots and grow.
“I am excited to see the Montgomery Chamber’s talent initiative continue to grow and expand into new areas,” said Kenny Ward, Director of Talent. “As we remain focused on attracting top-quality talent, we’re taking proactive steps to help meet the evolving workforce needs of our region.”
Shelby Stringfellow, Senior Vice President of Economic Development, added, “Our region’s continued success depends on our ability to connect emerging talent with meaningful opportunities. The Internship Expo was a strategic step in reinforcing Montgomery’s position as a place where careers begin and thrive.”
We’re proud of the energy, ambition, and professionalism the students brought to the event — and we’re equally grateful to the businesses that showed up ready to support, mentor, and empower our rising talent. The success of this first Internship Expo is a sign of what’s possible when a community comes together with a shared vision of growth and opportunity.
Montgomery’s future is bright — and this is only the beginning!
